How YouTube Brand Deals Actually Work
The biggest mistake new creators make is pricing their brand deals based on their subscriber count. Agencies and brands do not care if you have 1,000,000 subscribers if your videos only average 30,000 views. Sponsorships are calculated using a metric called CPM (Cost Per Mille)—which translates to "Cost per 1,000 Views."
The Sponsorship CPM Formula
The standard industry formula for a 60-second integrated shoutout is:
- Why does the niche matter? A gaming audience is younger and has less disposable income, so brands pay a lower CPM ($10-$15). A finance or B2B software audience is highly lucrative, so brands willingly pay $50+ CPMs to reach them.
- Calculating "Average Views": To find your average, take your last 10 videos (excluding massive viral outliers and shorts), add up their views from the first 30 days, and divide by 10.
