Tips to Improve

  • Use shorter sentences (aim for under 20 words each)
  • Replace complex words with simple alternatives
  • Break long paragraphs into 2-3 sentence chunks
  • Use active voice instead of passive voice

Why Readability is a Core SEO Metric

The single most underrated SEO metric is Dwell Time (how long a user stays on your page before clicking the 'Back' button). If your readability is poor, users bounce. When users bounce, Google demotes your rankings.

The Flesch-Kincaid Readability Formula

Our tool uses the standard Flesch-Kincaid mathematical formula, which evaluates:

  1. Total Words / Total Sentences: Long, run-on sentences lower your score.
  2. Total Syllables / Total Words: Complex collegiate vocabulary lowers your score.

The Golden Rules of Web Writing

Never try to sound "smart" by using complex words when simple ones will do. Use "use" instead of "utilize". Use "help" instead of "facilitate". Keep paragraphs to a maximum of 3 sentences.

The Final Pre-Publish Check

Writing the content is only half the battle. Before uploading this to WordPress or Next.js, run your draft against our 20-Point SEO Pre-Publish Checklist to ensure your technical SEO is flawless.
